Adoption Faq's

Ready to Adopt?

1. How do I apply to adopt?

Start by filling out our online enquiry form. We’ll email you the adoption application, and once submitted, our team will review it and get in touch to discuss next steps. Please note, some animals are very popular and we may not be able to get back to every applicant.

2. What is the adoption process like?

Once we’ve reviewed your application, we’ll arrange a phone call and then a meet-and-greet. If you already have a dog, they’ll need to come along too. You cannot adopt on the day, but if all goes well, we’ll send through the adoption contract and payment details. Every adoption includes a two-week trial in your home before ownership is officially transferred.

3. Is there an adoption fee?

Yes. Adoption fees help cover essential costs like vet work, food, transport, and care. Fees vary depending on the animal and are listed in each profile.

4. What’s included in the adoption fee?

All animals are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and flea/worm treated before adoption. After the two-week trial period, we’ll transfer the microchip into your name.

5. Do you allow interstate adoptions?

No, we don’t offer interstate adoptions. All adopters must meet the animal in person, usually at their foster home around Melbourne, Victoria. Each pet’s profile includes their current location.

6. Can I adopt if I rent?

Absolutely, but we do require you seek landlord or agent approval before proceeding.

7. How long does the adoption process take?

It varies, but typically takes a few days to two weeks. The faster you can organise a meet-and-greet (once approved), the sooner we can move forward.

8. Can I adopt if I have young kids or other pets?

Yes, but it depends on the animal. We always aim to match pets with homes that suit their needs. Some animals aren't suited to homes with young children due to past trauma or temperament. Check each pet’s profile to see what kind of home they’d thrive in.

9. What if the adoption doesn’t work out?

We offer a two-week trial period and full support during that time. If it’s not the right fit, the animal must be returned to us, and we’ll help with the next steps.

10. Do you offer foster-to-adopt?

This depends on the animal. If they’re listed as available for adoption and their vet work is complete, we are not seeking foster-to-adopt. However, if you're already a foster carer with us, you’ll be given first preference to adopt. If you do want to adopt you must let us know before the animal is officially listed for adoption.

11. Can I adopt more than one animal?

Sometimes, yes especially in the case of bonded pairs. Each situation is assessed individually. We do not adopt out litters of puppies into the same home due to the risk of littermate syndrome, which can occur at any point in their lives. Young kittens must be adopted in pairs or go to a home with another friendly cat for companionship.

12. Do you hold animals if I want to adopt but have an upcoming holiday booked?

No. We assume that if you are applying to adopt, you are ready to welcome an animal into your home. There are always more animals needing to be saved, and our rescue is unable to hold animals for extended periods
